Fishing For Steelhead

Columbia River Steelhead and Rainbow Trout are the same species of fish. What differentiates them is that Steelhead migrate between the Ocean and Rivers whereas Rainbow Trout do not migrate.

Steelhead run from 8 – 40 lbs with most being in the 12 – 20 lb range. Winter runs of Steelhead “B Run Steelhead” tend to be larger than the summer runs. Steelhead can be found in the Columbia most anytime of year but they are most previlant from November through February.

Columbia River Steelhead are a highly sought after game fish that pound for pound are one of the best fighting fish you can catch.
